Shell Mold Casting

Shell mold casting is an expendable mold casting process that uses a resin covered sand to form the mold. It is used for small to medium parts that require high dimensional accuracy. The molten metal is poured into an expendable mold, which is typically a thin-walled shell. The pattern, a metal piece in the shape of the desired part, is reused to form multiple shell molds.

Impro shell mold casting process cast aerospace quality aluminum parts up to 12 inches in diameter or length and weighing up to 30 pounds. Typical parts include impeller, flange mounting, gear housings, pump housing, pump cover, and cylinder heads.
